And So it Begins… (Original House Listing)

My house. My special kind of crazy.

I found it one evening on a drive through downtown Mooresville. After a failed attempt at purchasing a home in another part of town, I was starting to become discouraged and believed there would never be anything on the market fitting my needs and wants. I had been looking for a starter home. Something small, that I could put a little bit of cosmetic renovation into, with a big yard, in a quiet neighborhood.

The house on West Center was a far cry from meeting any needs of mine. It was far too big (3,300 square feet), far too old (100+years), and far too much work (TOTAL RENOVATION!). It wasn’t right and on top of all the contradictions from my original want list, it was under contract already.

Something about this house though, it awoke a challenge in me. I couldn’t get it off my mind. The next morning I called up the listing agent to get “the story” and much to my surprise she let me know she thought the house would be falling out of escrow very soon. I called my agent right away to schedule a showing.

The night of the showing, the listing agent had not requested the power be turned on at the property. Dusk was quickly turning into night and I was determined to see this house. We got out our flashlights and proceeded to enter the house. It was an experience I will never forget. A house this old can create a lot of wild ideas in your head about things that go bump in the night. Surprisingly, I never got an eerie feeling. In the dark I knew I wasn’t going to be able to see every last imperfection. Looking at older homes in the past, I had a feel for spotting major structural issues like sinking floors (you can sense uneven floors much easier in the dark actually). Everything in the house seemed sound. The electrical was old, the plumbing was old, and there was not one operating bathroom, and still none of it scared me.

I put in an offer the next day. Like I said, it’s a special kind of crazy.

I went with my gut. This was my house. I knew it would be a lot of work, but it was a challenge I was willing to rise to. That excites me. The house on West Center Avenue in Mooresville, NC was purchased on December 9th, 2014 and these are the original MLS Listing Photos.
